How To Keep Your Guides Ice-Free This Winter with Greg Garcia

This video is short, but oh so sweet - especially with the winter fishing season right around the corner.

Fly fishing during the winter is a blast. There are less people on the water and while you may not catch as many trout as you did during the summer months, the ones you do catch always seem to be better fish. Some of my best days on the water have been during the dead of winter. But one little issue has the ability to kneecap your good day: the guides on your fly rod freezing over and making it impossible to make a clean cast.

There are a myriad of solutions to this problem, but Greg Garcia’s Lemon Pledge method is by far the most interesting. Greg is a Signature Tyer for Umpqua Feather Merchants and has spent countless hours on tailwaters all over Colorado. He knows the pain of icy guides and discovered this method after a trial and error process.
